Moisture Mitigation

Moisture Mitigation & Testing — RH (In-Situ) and Calcium Chloride

FloorMasters Group provides professional slab moisture assessment and mitigation planning. We use
ASTM F2170 in-situ RH testing and ASTM F1869 Calcium Chloride (MVER) testing.
Tests can be performed individually or together for a fuller picture before flooring or coatings.

Method 1

RH (In-Situ) — ASTM F2170

We drill and place sensors at 40% depth (for drying from one side) to measure internal relative humidity.
RH correlates strongly with many adhesive and coating system limits.

  • Core holes drilled, sleeves installed, sensors equilibrate (typically ~24 hours).
  • Readings recorded and logged with temperature and location.
  • Recommended where RH limits govern product selection.
Method 2

Calcium Chloride — ASTM F1869

We place pre-weighed CaCl dishes under sealed domes to measure moisture vapor emission rate (MVER)
in lbs/1000 ft²/24h.

  • Surface prepped, domes sealed; exposure period typically 60–72 hours.
  • Weight gain measured to calculate MVER.
  • Useful for legacy specs and emission-based limits.

When to Use Both Together

Combining RH (internal condition) + MVER (surface emission) gives a more complete moisture profile,
reducing risk before installing LVP, carpet tile, coatings, or self-levelers.

  • Conflicting readings or borderline specs
  • Mixed systems (e.g., patch + epoxy + urethane)
  • Critical schedules or sensitive finishes

Our Workflow

  1. Site review & layout: Grid placement based on square footage and obstacles.
  2. Preparation: Clean/abrade surface as required; mark test locations.
  3. Testing: Drill/core for RH sleeves; place RH sensors and/or CaCl domes per method.
  4. Equilibration/Exposure: RH ~24 hours; CaCl typically 60–72 hours.
  5. Read & document: Capture readings, temperature, photos, and a simple plan view.
  6. Report & recommendations: If above limits, we’ll propose mitigation (e.g., epoxy vapor barrier, primers, or extended dry time).

Pricing & Test Count

Important Testing Disclaimer:
The test results and recommendations reflect the conditions measured at the time of testing only.
Moisture levels can change due to weather, HVAC operation, building enclosure, or other factors.
No warranty is made or implied regarding future conditions. If site conditions change, re-testing is recommended.
